Keep Irving Beautiful

2024 TEEA Winner - Education

Keep Irving Beautiful, an affiliate of both Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful since 1992, is a nonprofit overseen by the City of Irving Parks and Recreation Department and guided by a 10-member volunteer Board of Directors. KIB sponsors two annual community-wide cleanups, as well as smaller scale cleanups throughout the year. The large events are held at parks along Irving’s Campion Trail System where volunteers focus on keeping litter from reaching the nearby Elm Fork of the Trinity River, in addition to tree plantings and other special projects. They also partner with a number of local businesses for corporate sponsorship.

KIB staff attend career days at seven Irving ISD elementary schools to talk about volunteerism and taking care of the environment. They created a unique skit that teaches the audience the importance of not littering in a fun and engaging way, which won the 2022 Innovation Award from Keep America Beautiful. Along with the elementary schools, the skit has been performed for summer camp programs, day care centers, other schools, and a senior center.
